Lemon Rice


Sona Massori Rice - 2 cups
Lemon Juice - 4 tbsps
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Green Chillies - 5, slit
Mustard Seeds - 2 tsps
Black Gram - 2 tsps
Bengal Gram - 2 tsps
Ground Nuts - 1/4 cup
Curry Leaves - 8
Dry Red Chillies - 4,cut into pieces
Asafoetida - a pinch
Oil - 5 tbsps
Salt to taste
Coriander Leaves - for garnishing


  1. Cook rice with salt till the grains are still separate.
  2. Spread the rice on a plate and let it cool.
  3. In a heavy bottomed pan, heat oil and saute ground nuts.
  4. When the groundnuts turn slightly brown, add mustard seeds, black gram, bengal gram, red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida.
  5. Add slit green chillies.
  6. When mustard starts to splutter, add turmeric powder.
  7. Now add cooked rice and mix well.
  8. Turn off the heat and add lemon juice and mix well.
  9. Add more salt if required and mix well.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
